In December 2022, I was honored to be featured in Authority Magazine‘s series, “The 5 Things You Need To Create A Highly Successful Career As A Public Relations Pro.” It was an exciting milestone for me and a significant moment in the journey of The Conscious Publicist, as it marked one of our initial forays into the media landscape. This feature provided a valuable platform for sharing my insights and experiences, shedding light on the principles and values driving our public relations firm.
Being part of Authority Magazine’s series was a personal achievement and an incredible opportunity to connect with a wider audience of aspiring and established public relations professionals. By sharing my insights and experiences through this medium, I aimed to inspire and empower others passionate about making a positive impact in the PR field. I hope readers will gain valuable knowledge and practical tips to propel their careers forward.
Moreover, I wanted to emphasize the importance of conscious and ethical practices in public relations, encouraging professionals to prioritize authenticity, transparency, and social responsibility. By imparting these lessons, we aspire to cultivate a community of conscious publicists who collaborate and uplift one another for the industry’s and society’s greater good.

What drives me? A passion for supporting others…
As a public relations pro, I often work to promote and support the interests of others. Having a genuine passion for helping others and a desire to impact the world positively is essential.
I founded The Conscious Publicist, a public relations firm that focuses on helping purpose-driven brands share their stories and methodologies with the world. My passion for writing, communication, and storytelling led me to start this entrepreneurial journey in 2016. We aim to help conscious brands make a meaningful impact by sharing their messages of mindful leadership, social impact, and purpose.
Since I started The Conscious Publicist, one of the most exciting stories has been witnessing the significant growth of the brand and business through collaboration. Recognizing that success cannot be achieved alone, I have actively sought and collaborated with experts who bring diverse skills and experience. Moreover, this collaborative approach has allowed the brand to come to life in ways I couldn’t have imagined initially. I’m excited to continue exploring the potential of this venture alongside my partners.
In the early days of my career, I made a funny mistake that taught me an important lesson. I only sometimes proofread my written communications carefully, leading to minor grammatical errors in pitches and newsletters. Although seemingly insignificant, these mistakes reminded me of the importance of meticulous proofreading to convey professionalism and credibility in PR.
Currently, we have some exciting projects in the works. We have launched The Conscious Publicist Podcast, where we explore the intersection of public relations, thought leadership, business, and entrepreneurship through the lens of conscious living. Additionally, we are introducing our executive contributors’ program and PR VIP Intensive sessions to provide valuable resources and support for our clients.
Regarding the character traits that have been instrumental to my success, I would say determination, passion for creating my own reality, and a desire to support global initiatives. These traits guide how I help my clients and shape our methodologies at The Conscious Publicist. By being determined and passionate, I strive to empower others to find their voices and embrace transformation.
I touched upon different forms of PR, such as media relations, internal communications, crisis management, content marketing, social media, influencer relations, event planning, and corporate social responsibility. These various forms of PR aim to improve a client’s reputation, manage relationships with stakeholders, and shape public perception. More to come on this topic soon!
As someone with degrees in PR, marketing, and business management, I believe traditional schooling isn’t the only path to success in our industry. Self-taught programs and mentorship can offer more current and innovative methods. Social and interactive skills are valued over textbook knowledge. I advise young professionals to research and find a learning approach that resonates with them and supports their strengths and interests.
Regarding networking, I believe in being intentional about connections, focusing on quality over quantity, and nurturing curiosity. Building genuine relationships based on shared interests, values, and goals is key to successful networking. Generating qualified leads can be achieved by leveraging existing client relationships as referral partners and pursuing PR and earned media opportunities. Strong relationships and visibility can contribute to a steady stream of qualified leads.
To create a successful public relations pro career, five things are crucial: integrity, organizational awareness, strong communication skills, drive and determination, and a passion for supporting others. These qualities form the foundation for success in the PR industry.
If I could inspire a movement, it would focus on improving processes contributing to waste and overproduction. We can work towards a more sustainable future by promoting sustainable practices, encouraging responsible consumer choices, and adopting more environmentally-conscious approaches.
Overall, My journey in the public relations industry has been driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact and help purpose-driven brands share their stories. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this interview series and share my insights and experiences.
